My Journey
About Me
I’m a self-taught contemporary visual artist. Growing up in Kolkata, drawing and painting were an important part of my life. Since I also enjoyed studying Science and Maths, I got a degree in Physics in college. After working a few years in IT, I couldn’t let go of the painting bug, and decided to pursue painting seriously, full time. My passion became my profession. In my initial years as an artist I enjoyed doing realistic oil paintings. With time it has evolved to a figurative style, working primarily in acrylic on canvas. My compositions are often layered, textured, and infused with emotional complexity.
Each work begins with spontaneous gestural brushstrokes – an instinctive play of form and movement from which the subject gradually emerges. This leads to a visual narrative, which is further highlighted into a deliberate form towards a vision. Using a limited harmonious colour palette I try to capture the quiet beauty of life – its people, their expressions, and their subtle dialogue with the world around them. Using limited colour palette I push my boundaries to explore and play around with various tones of the same shade. In each composition I invite viewers into a meditative dialogue, contemplation and connection; colour and gesture become medium for thought and feeling and thus encouraging them to find their own meaning, as no two interpretations are ever the same. I am constantly trying to reinvent my craft using different methods, or medium. I draw inspiration from nature, people and the transient beauty of everyday moments. My endeavour is to create pieces that resonate with a sense of depth, movement, and storytelling. Living in various cities in the country has added to my experience, which, I believe plays a big part in my life as an artist. In my journey I have been fortunate to have Sri Ashok Bhowmick as mentor. My paintings have been displayed in exhibitions and art fairs in New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Dubai and London. I have had solo shows in New Delhi and Ahmedabad. Currently I am based in Gurgaon.
